All Island Landscape
All Island Landscape had humble beginnings. Byron Rymer worked in the landscape field in Boston then moved to Portsmouth. So he founded the company in Portsmouth in 2000 as Byron’s Lawn Care. It began as a weekend job of cutting lawns and trimming shrubs. After only one month, Byron realized that the business needed more attention. He left his construction job and literally went door-to-door to build the business during the first year.
By 2001, the company needed to hire its first employees. The name of the company was also changed to All Island Landscape. That year proved to be so successful that the company was then able to purchase trucks, trailers and equipment to better serve its growing list of steady clients.
All Island Landscape continued to grow and grow. The company began laying patios and walkways and purchased its first bucket truck for its new tree service. Headquarters were moved from Byron’s backyard to a new, larger property where the materials yard and garden center opened as a retail outlet.
Today, All Island Landscape has 66 employees at the height of the season, and 31 vehicles. Its list of services continues to grow and includes new plantings, regular lawn maintenance, tree pruning and removals, patio and walkway installation, retaining walls, grading and drainage solutions, as well as new lawn, fountain and pool installations.
The retail end has expanded to a full-service materials yard that offers mulches, stone, bluestone, cobblestones, screened loam, and a host of other landscape and masonry materials and supplies. The company is the exclusive area dealer for Unilock® Pavers, and is an authorized dealer for Walpole Woodworkers products and Seaside Casual Furniture.
All Island Landscape serves Portsmouth, Middletown, Newport, Tiverton, Little Compton, Bristol, Warren, Barrington, Jamestown, Wickford, Wakefield and surrounding communities in the Providence and South County areas.
Byron’s extraordinary leadership has taken the company from a one person, one lawn mower operation in 2000, to a company comprised of 66 employees at the height of the season, with 31 vehicles, four lawn crews, two tree crews, a masonry division and a growing landscape design division. Byron oversees the overall operations side of the company. He also manages the Commercial and Residential Landscape Division as well as the Tree Service Division. He is a true visionary. His commitment to serving the community in all of its landscaping needs has attributed to the exponential growth of his company.
Byron was born in Poughkeepsie, NY, and has lived in Rhode Island since 2000. He attended Eastern Nazarene College where he studied religion and history. Byron brings nearly two decades of construction and landscaping experience to his company.
As of January 1st, 2018, Stephen Murphy has joined the company as a co-owner.
Stephen will be focusing on the landscape maintenance side of All Island Landscape, which includes Green Systems. This will allow Byron to focus on the construction aspects of the business.
What does this mean to you as a customer? It means extra care and better customer service. As you know, we have grown and branched out over the years, becoming one of the largest landscape maintenance and construction companies in Rhode Island. Steve’s added knowledge and enthusiasm will strengthen our commitment to quality landscape service.
After working in the landscape business, while attending High School and College, Steve landed a job in the investment business, working in New York and Boston. After 28 years on Wall Street, Steve decided that he needed to figure out chapter two of his life. He pursued his passion by purchasing a landscape franchise in the Boston area called, The Grounds Guys. He has been running the business successfully since 2014.
Steve has had a home in Portsmouth since 2008 and is very excited to be teaming up with all of us at All Island Landscape. His vision is to take All Island to the next level of landscape maintenance and construction. We are looking forward to a bright future together!
